"Unicamp Challenge"

The Unicamp Challenge is a national competition for business modeling based on technologies. Teams develop a business model from a pre-selected Unicamp technology. Participants receive workshops in business modeling methodologies, training, and mentorship. The main goal of the challenge is to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation. 

Purpose of the solution

The purpose of the Unicamp Challenge is to foster innovation and entrepreneurship through the use of technologies developed at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). Recognizing the importance of transforming academic knowledge into practical, marketable solutions, the program aims to stimulate the creation of technology-based businesses that can positively impact society. Since its inception, the Challenge's main goal has been to connect students, researchers, and market professionals, creating a collaborative environment where innovative ideas can be developed and tested.  

The competition provides a platform for participants to explore and apply theoretical knowledge in practice, developing essential business skills. Additionally, the Challenge encourages creativity and entrepreneurial initiative, promoting the formation of multidisciplinary teams that can tackle complex problems innovatively. Through mentorship and workshops, participants receive guidance from experts to refine their ideas and better understand the market. Impact

The Unicamp Challenge, a national entrepreneurship competition based on the protected technologies of the State University of Campinas, has undergone significant transformation over its 15-year history. Before the 2020 pandemic, the program was held in-person, promoting direct interaction among participants. However, due to global circumstances, the competition quickly adapted to an online format, expanding its reach and participation possibilities. Since its inception, the Unicamp Challenge has attracted over 3,300 individuals interested in innovation and entrepreneurship. The last edition in 2024 included 229 participants from 11 different Brazilian states. In its 15th edition, the program recorded a national reach with 328 registrants from 21 states and the Federal District, along with competitors from eight countries, including the UK and France. The diversity in this edition is remarkable, with 53% of competitors unaffiliated with Unicamp, coming from over 70 educational and research institutions.  

Participants represent a wide range of states, including Alagoas, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Roraima, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Sergipe, and Tocantins. The significance of the Unicamp Challenge for Brazil is undeniable, especially in a context where innovation and entrepreneurship are increasingly essential for economic and social development.
